In 2016 Xaveer De Geyter Architects won a competition organized by AURA estates to refurbish the former brewery building of Ginder-Ale in Merchtem into a multifunctional complex. Only the original concrete structure was retained to host different public functions and a car parking. Above this structure, on the second floor, an additional concrete structure was added to support 5 new levels of housing units organized around a large central atrium with a garden.

This space opens up to an urban balcony, creating a connection with its surroundings. We were appointed to carry out this project on behalf of the firm Archibal Architectuur. We are pleased to have been part of this interesting building process and its many rewarding challenges.
