Project Renovation of a single family house
Location Bilzen (BE)
Client Private
Year 2019
Status Self-build project
This renovation project transformed a typical Flemish family home into something special.
An imaginary grid was placed on the existing facades in order to create a system which allowed us to design a more coherent composition. New window openings were placed inside the existing openings and are now geometrically related to each other on the grid.
Since the current gable roof was in too bad a condition to renovate, it was decided to simply remove the roof, leaving only the flat roof. The result is a modern-looking building that fits in perfectly with the conceptual grid, creating a harmoniously integrated project. The leftover bricks from the sections of the house that have to be demolished will be made into tiles to be used as decorative elements in the facades and floors.
